Kindergarten Survival Guide For Parents General Information:
- School starts at 7:40. Students arriving at school between 7:20-7:40 will come in their classroom and begin their morning routine.
- The first few days of school, parents may walk their students to class to get them acclimated to their new classroom. Starting on Thursday, August 23rd, we will be asking adults to check into the front office at all times before entering the building. This will include morning arrival. If parents or family would like to escort their students into the building, they will need to come through the front office and use the Raptor System.
- It is expected that your child complete the morning routine independently (hang up backpack, put folder away, make their lunch choice, and begin morning work).
- Students will bring his/her backpack each school day. It is the student’s responsibility to get his/her belongings in the appropriate place. All correspondence and money from home must be placed in your child’s daily folder.
- All jackets, sweaters, lunch boxes, and backpacks should be labeled with the child’s name.
- All money sent to school needs to be in a sealed envelope labeled with the student’s name, teacher’s name and purpose for the money in order to be readily accountable.
- For SAFETY reasons, please ensure that you or any visitor sign in at the front office.
- School is dismissed at 2:55. Students are escorted by teachers to their dismissal areas. For the sake of confusion and safety, parents are not allowed to meet their child at the classroom at dismissal time.
- We are providing a tag indicating how your child is going home. The dismissal tag will be placed on your child’s backpack, please do not remove! Please notify us of any changes.
- Send an email and call the office by 12:00 if you decide to change the way your child goes home. Otherwise, no matter what the student tells us, we are required to send them home the way you established previously.
- We encourage parents to volunteer in the classroom. We always welcome an extra pair of hands and another smiling face when we are working with the children. However, we would like to give the class time to bond before volunteers start.
- We will discuss volunteer opportunities at our Kindergarten Close Up on Thursday, August 23rd at 6:00 p.m.
- By November, your child will begin guided reading groups. At this time, students will participate in small group reading instruction. At home, you can help your child grow as a reader by reading to them and with them. Leveled books will be provided, but feel free to read books from home as well. For each book you read to them or your child reads to you, mark off a number on the reading log provided. There will be a party at the end of year for all students who have reached 400 books in the year!
Breakfast
Breakfast will be served at CRE. Your child can purchase a breakfast and eat it in the cafeteria. Breakfast begins at 7:20. The cost for breakfast is $1.35.
Lunch:
Kindergarten Lunch Time: 10:15-10:45a.m.
Lunch is paid for through the cafeteria. We strongly encourage parents to send a check at the beginning of the week or month to ensure proper credit is applied to your child’s account. You can also credit your child’s lunch account online at www.myschoolbucks.com
If your child does not have sufficient funds in their account, they will receive a cheese sandwich and milk. Your child’s lunch account information is available through the cafeteria.
Lunch:
Student Cost $2.80
Milk $0.60
- To help with the transition of lunchtime, we are asking that all kindergarteners bring a lunch from home for the first two weeks of school. Beginning the third week (August 27th), your child may purchase a lunch from the cafeteria.
- Beginning the third week of school, parents are welcome to eat lunch with their child any time. Please remember this time is a wonderful opportunity for your child to develop his or her friendship skills.
- Your child may bring a healthy snack each day. You are responsible for sending snacks for your own child. Snacks are strongly encouraged because we eat lunch very early.
- Your child needs to bring a “sports” water bottle to drink throughout the day. Have your child practice opening and closing their water bottle independently. Please DO NOT send juices or any other type of drink for classroom use.
- Please remember that snack is a brief time in our classroom. Your child should bring 1 item. Appropriate snacks would be: crackers, fruit roll-up, fruit or granola bar. Please do not send fruit cups, yogurt, pudding, juice box or candy.
- Due to the FMNV law, we must celebrate birthdays after the lunch hour. We will celebrate birthdays at 2:20p.m.. Check with your child’s teacher before choosing a treat. It must be store bought and not made at home.
- Your child may pass out birthday invitations at school, provided there is an invitation for every child in the classroom. The invitations will go home in the daily folder.
- Please put notes inside your child’s daily folder. We will check it each day. Please remember we will not be checking backpacks. A weekly school-wide folder will be sent home on Tuesdays (Tuesday folder) with general school information and flyers. Please remove all papers from this folder. Anything that needs to be returned needs to be placed in the child’s Daily Folder.
- We check e-mail on a regular basis, and it is one of the quickest ways to share information. Please feel free to e-mail your child’s teacher at anytime.
